DURING the last few years attention has been focussed largely on streptococcal infections in the puerperium. I wish to discuss infections with coliform organisms, with special reference to the urinary tract, for although much less serious they are very common and contribute largely to puerperal morbidity. I use the term " pyuria " to mean the presence of both pus cells and organisms in the urine. " Heavy infection " indicates that, in
